 One of the best decisions I made in life, after giving my life to Christ and marrying my Clare, was to join Busoga College Mwiri 

Mwiri opened doors for me to learn and get an education. Most of my best friends, great life experiences, close colleagues, spiritual encounters, leadership development and life skills were hewn in that place

I can connect so much to Mwiri because of the foundation I got there

I am honoured to be an alumnus and done the Mwiri colours with pride

It has been an honor to run the Leadership Nuggets Conversations side by side with you all 

We thank God for the space He has provided us in this digital world to meet virtually and in some cases (rarely) physically.  I am grateful to the sacrificial dedication you have put in to ensure we do not drop this precious ball

By God's grace, we have reached many people even as we have learnt through the various books together. 

Thank you all for helping me understand better what teamwork, collaboration and dedication to the cause means

Even as we continue with these Nuggets through the festive season (for leadership never stops), it is my prayer that we shall even aim higher next year

I see us becoming better leaders of ourselves, those closest to us and the world. 

Am grateful for Ap Mo Mukisa who birthed this idea in me and for the different authors whose books we have been  blessed to read and decipher

I thank you all for such an amazing journey and look forward to conquering greater horizons as a team

This proverb was taught to me yesterday by my brother Patrick Mwesige. Yes, he of the Zenith Consulting Group

Often when invited to certain spaces, we have ideas of  what should be done and how. The big headed amongst want to direct ourselves and determine what to be done

At a recently concluded Gathering, a friend confided in me that ushering is not a thing they will.do again because of  how guests behave. The self important get onto your nerves, people do not follow instructions, others think they can donit better etc

This Tooro proverb has however hit the point home. 

As a guest , keep in your lane. Simple

Dear Miriam

Hello dear Miriam

 

Last night I received the sad news that you had left this earthy body to go and meet our saviour and Lord Jesus Christ. I say sad news because we shall not see you in the physical form that we know in this world. Sad that we will not see you again although we know that you have gone to a better place. Sad that we will not hear your hearty loud laughter and passionate conversations. Sad that Jack will miss you and so will you dear children. Sad that we shall miss your jokes and how you used to tease us

 

I know that our Lord and God also feels sad about this day. For Psalm 116:15 NKJV says that “Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His saints.” However, I know that we shall meet again when meet before our Lord Jesus Christ. Yes we shall. For all this is but temporary. I am encouraged by these words:

 

The Coming of the Lord

13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord,[d] that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Rest with the Angels Miriam. Rest with our Lord Jesus Christ. We know that you are in a better place. Nonetheless, we shall miss you dearly.

The Power of the Covenant

When David was still a young boy, he was sent to visit his elder brothers at the battlefield. Whilst there, he was shocked to listen to Goliath the giant abusing and ridiculing the Army of Israel. David asks that powerful question which has always been on my mind - Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he can dare to defy the armies of the Living God? (1 Samuel 17: 26 ESV)

That Question right there revealed the true identity of David. On the one hand, he was Covenanted (in a relationship with God) and thus He knew who God was and what that relationship meant (This is very similar to what Joseph had earlier said - '...How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” ...' (Genesis 39: 9). These two young men showed that they had a deep relationship with God. This showed that they must have mastered their relationship at a very young age and that is a lesson we shall explore later. Suffice to say there is a duty on us as parents to teach these words to our Children (Deuteronomy 6:6-7 New King James Version 6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 119:11, Isaiah 55:3, Psalm 119:105)

Now back to David - He not only heard about GOD - but he knew Him well enough to understand that God is not one to be defied. It was this personal relationship which we see God "testify" about this Himself. 1 Samuel 13:14 (New King James Version)14 But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.” In the same way that He did for Moses,

5 Then the Lord came down in the pillar of cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam. And they both went forward. 6 Then He said,

“Hear now My words:

If there is a prophet among you,

I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision;

I speak to him in a dream.

7 Not so with My servant Moses;

He is faithful in all My house.

8 I speak with him face to face,

Even plainly,[c] and not in [d]dark sayings;

And he sees the form of the Lord.

Why then were you not afraid

To speak against My servant Moses?” (Numbers 12: 5- 8 NKJV)

Job -

And the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?” (Job 1: 8)

and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ….

And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Mathew 3: 17 NKJV). Immediately we are reminded about the Scripture that says Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! (Psalm 33:12 ESV)

It is therefore that kind of relationship which made David certain that Goliath would not withstand the onslaught that was about to happen to him. David did not trust in weapons, nor experience (although he had practiced with bears and lions

34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, 35 I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.)

Rather, David trusted in that covenant relationship with God as stated in 1 Samuel 17: 26 ESV. It is for that reason that he responded to Goliath thus

“You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, 47 and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hand.”

The lesson we learn from this is that when we are in covenant with God, it gives us a confidence many will not attend (see Eliab’s response in (1 Samuel 17: 28 -30). More so, that God will do exceedingly abundantly over what we can expect or imagine because of that covenant

Ruhanga (GOD) is my compass constantly and Provider for all things; I will never lack ant good thing - which will come in its time.

2 Isitiwe keeps peaceful and provides wholly for me; HE takes me where there is peace and quiet – away from the distractions and entanglements which are not good for me.

3 When I am down and weary, beaten by scandal, addiction or other sin, Omukama Wange is always there to give me another chance; He always blocks me in case I am going astray and shows me where I should go so that I will not bring ridicule to His Great name and reputation.

4 Indeed, although I live and work in situations that are life threatening, I will fear no evil; For Kibumba Byonna is with me; The Holy Spirit and Your Angels, they comfort me when I am down

5 Oh Ruhanga You promote me in Your own time especially where those who wish me wrong are present; You anoint my head with oil and open so many doors for me which are overwhelming; I cannot count all my blessings and opportunities You have provided for me

6 Surely Mukama's righteousness and Kindness shall always be with me, All through the days I am on this earth; And I will even remain in His Awesome Presence for ever and ever.

A MERCIFUL GOD

GOD is so merciful. Right from the garden of Eden, He did not kill Adam and Eve outright or immediately as a literal reading of His prior Commandment would assume. Instead, He spared them. The edict against Cain was also reversed and He was not to be killed in spite of committing the dastardly deed of killing his only brother Abel.

GOD even warned Cain before this murder had occurred. This would mean that Cain would have found a lot of difficulty in a Court of law, to defend his actions. More so,  GOD also notes that Abel's blood was "testifying from the grave" and seeking for justice. Cain was therefore doomed - save for the mercy of GOD who even amended his edict by ensuring that Cain is branded clearly so as to avoid being killed by anyone as he sojourned the earth as a fugitive. 

Enter "Father" Abraham - who is probably the first known earthly Advocate in the Judeo Christian accords. He seeks to advocate for the forgiveness of Sodom and Gomorrah from total destruction in case there are a few good men in the City. He probably was mindful of the fact that his nephew Lot resided in that place. Once again we see the merciful hand of God who allows to be convinced to forgive. Even Lot negotiates for a nearer place of refuge to avoid destruction. This is because GOD had told him to go to a further place

The above characteristic of GOD is what seems to frustrate Jonah. He shows his unwillingness to preach death and destruction to the people of Nineveh because he knew that God would turn around in case the people repented. 

All through the Bible, we clearly see GOD extending mercy again and again. This speaks to his character and  methodology. A merciful God who is ever willing to reconsider His judgement in case a sinner repents. This is therefore why JESUS CHRIST also came to earth to die for our sins. That is the ultimate show of Mercy and a merciful God. Amen
